German web TV market consolidates, quality rises :
There are currently 1,424 web TV services in German and 194 million videos are watched on them daily, according to the Web-TV Monitor 2012 study by Goldmedia for the Bavarian Regulatory Authority for Commercial Broadcasting (BLM). This is a 17 percent rise in the number of video views compared with 2011. One in five video retrievals is carried out using a mobile device. One in two providers has a mobile app or mobile website.
In recent years, the web TV market has grown quantatively and is now in a phase of consolidation bringing with it increased professionalism. The study found that 78 percent of web broadcasters’ videos are their own productions.
Traditional media companies account for 46 percent of web TV service providers while 31 percent are produced especially for the internet. Corporate TV and video-shopping portals account for 11 percent, and non-commercial web-TV broadcasters for 5 percent.
